I’m Charlotte McCourt, and I currently lead UX Writing and Product Design at FREENOW. I’m a mentor, a human-centred leader, and an advocate for ethical design, with a special interest in AI.

My career spans over a decade and covers UX, Content Design, Research and Product Design for a number of different organisations both as an employee and as a contractor. I’ve worked on all sorts, from luxury fashion, transport, FinTech, travel, and climate change, to EU-led food campaigns, SaaS products and cruise ship tech. I’ve also mentored designers, UX writers and product professionals, as well as advising on the development of courses to teach the next generation of UX writers, content designers and UX leaders.

Whilst I love the craft of both content design and product design, and consider myself a UX generalist with a flair for the written word, my greatest passion is developing and coaching people. I truly love being a manager and helping the teams I lead to succeed.

In my current role, I am responsible for the wellbeing and output of the product designers and UX writers spanning 4 product domains; FinTech, Rider Experience, Integrations and B2B. I’m also responsible for setting product strategy for these domains, alongside my product leadership peers.

Kaluza is a SaaS start-up formed out of OVO, focused on decentralisation, electric charging and energy climate change policy.

In my role there, I led a team of content designers, researchers and technical writers, with end responsibility for all product and technical content.

In my first stint at FREENOW (formerly MyTaxi) I was the founding member of the UX Writing team, going on to set up the entire department, the localisation department and eventually also leading the team of marketing copywriters and freelancers.

I ran the content design department, leading a team of 4 writers, as well as providing hands on copywriting and content design work, for Virgin Voyages, a cruise line aimed at millennials.

My hands-on work spanned an app, in-ship tech, development of TOV and writing guidelines.

In addition to the roles mentioned above, I’ve worked for a number of interesting start-ups, brands, organisations and agencies, including Fenty, LVMH, Pandora, Mirum, EU food campaigns, Bentley Motors amongst others.

I have also provided advisory and pro bono work, for a number of education providers in the UX industry, and early stage start-ups, most notably The UX Content Collective, and ADP List.
